That means Viagra, Pfizer's popular erectile dysfunction drug, will be available for sale from a new drugstore in Canada, the authors say.
The new research is part of a broader effort to determine the impact of the price of drugs purchased on the price of health-care items.
The study, led by researchers from University of Montreal, was presented at the American Society for Health-System Pharmacy Fall 2008 conference in San Francisco on May 24. It was funded by Pfizer Inc. and Pfizer's Canadian subsidiary, Caduet. The research team used data from the price of three drugs: Viagra, Pfizer's popular erectile dysfunction drug, and Pfizer's popular erectile dysfunction drug, Cialis.
The study was published in the journalPharmacy Journalin June 2008.
The authors write: "The price of drugs purchased from foreign pharmacies, such as Cialis, Pfizer's popular erectile dysfunction drug, is directly related to the overall cost and volume of the pharmacy-sponsored sale.
"This price reduction is expected to be significant, especially for drugs that are frequently purchased from foreign sources or foreign-regulated manufacturers."
A variety of other drugs that are used to treat erectile dysfunction and other conditions are available on the market, including drugs like Viagra.
The study is part of a broader effort to determine the impact of the price of drugs purchased from foreign pharmacies on the price of health-care items.
The study's findings are published in the journal.
The researchers said they expect to see a 50 percent reduction in overall prescription drug prices in the U. S. in the next year, and 50 percent decrease in the number of health-care items that are purchased from foreign suppliers.
They said the study "does not suggest that a 50 percent decrease in prices from a foreign source could result in a dramatic and substantial increase in the price of health-care items."
The study was supported by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and the Health Canada program of the Canadian Institute of Pharmaceutical Research (CIHR) and the Public Health Research Service (PHS) and the University of Montreal Health Sciences Centre (PHSC).

The complaint claims that Li Ke used sildenafil and other prescription medicines, and advertised the medicine in the online pharmacy to people in the United States. The man was arrested and booked into the United States without bond.
