The headlines magic words of the day
Viagra has been hailed as a miracle drug for men in recent years. Its benefits were evident from its effectiveness in treating erectile dysfunction, allowing men to achieve and maintain erections without the need for medication.
It’s been touted as the first drug to treat impotence, with the active ingredient, Sildenafil Citrate, being the first drug approved for the treatment of erectile dysfunction.
As we know Viagra works by inhibiting the enzyme that typically increases blood flow to the penis, allowing men to achieve and maintain an erection on demand. It’s also more affordable than other available ED treatments, making it a more cost-effective option.
Viagra is the only drug to treat erectile dysfunction in men, and has since been approved by the FDA for use in the treatment of that condition.
It’s available over-the-counter, but doctors often don’t have access to it. So, the availability of Viagra is a concern in the UK.
The UK’s Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) decided to warn men of sexual health conditions that were possibly linked to Viagra. It also recommended that men with these conditions should avoid using other ED drugs like Cialis or Levitra.
In a to inform men of these drugs, and all medicines, Viagra should not be used by men who are pregnant, planning to conceive or are breastfeeding. It is also not advised for anyone under the age of 18.
“Viagra can cause severe health complications if taken by people under the age of 18,” MHRA’s director of vigilance and prevention, Dr Catherine Wu, said.
“This is not a recommendation to use Viagra or any other impotence medication. It’s a prescription medication that can have a negative effect on your health and could be unsafe for people who are already taking medicines for high blood pressure or heart disease.”
The MHRA’s stance was taken as a matter of policy, and the drug is still available in the UK for purchase. The drug is not currently approved for use in the UK for sexual health.
But it’s important to remember that the UK has been experiencing sexual health problems for many years.
Viagra, also known by its generic name sildenafil, is the only medicine licensed to treat erectile dysfunction in men. However, in many cases the problem is a result of a condition called priapism, or penile infarction.
For this reason, men with a heart condition called angina, or coronary artery disease, must take Viagra if they wish to use it. However, it is not a miracle drug.
Dr Catherine Wu, a specialist in erectile dysfunction and sexual health, advises men with a history of heart problems to discuss any problems they may have with the drug. If they occur, they should inform their doctor.
“If you have a blood pressure or heart problem, you should not take Viagra. If you have a recent history of heart problems, you should not take Viagra. You should also not take any ED medicines,” she toldMedscape Medical News. “If you have a recent history of stroke, you should not take Viagra. Viagra can also interact with nitrates used to treat chest pain or angina. So, if you are taking any nitrate medicines, it’s best to avoid taking Viagra.

The MHRA has also recommended men avoid using any drugs to treat low blood pressure.
A few men have been given Viagra after taking nitrates and prescribed the drug to help lower blood pressure.
However, Dr Catherine Wu added that these men had been using Viagra for more than a year without any side effects.
“The drug should not be used by men who are taking any nitrate medicines, as it can have a serious impact on your health. Viagra can also interact with some medicines, such as certain antibiotics. So, it’s best to avoid using Viagra,” she said.
In addition, there is some data on the use of Viagra in a patient’s blood pressure.
“If you have high blood pressure, you shouldn’t take Viagra as it can cause serious complications,” Dr Wu said.
